For most people the Northside is a Steeler game or Pirates game. That area is actually the North Shore. Pittsburgh is a city made up of neighhoods. And sometimes cities. The Northside was accually the city of Allegheny. Its acculy one of my favorite places to photograph. The buildings a 1900 vibe. And then around the corner is a robot company. Now and then you get a hint of Deutschtown and its German immigrants

East Allegheny, also known as Deutschtown, is a neighborhood on Pittsburgh's North Side. It has a ZIP code of 15212, and has representation on Pittsburgh City Council by the council member for District 1. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire houses 32 engines and 32 trucks in Deutschtown.

Immigrants are what made up Pittsburgh. Each neighborhood was a small country. In the 1900's German was the language of the Northside. It's a proud heritage, that can still be found here.

No it's not 1970. It's just the Northside.

This is one of my favorite streets. It's a time capsule. The old Troy hill trolley tracks sit waiting. The funny thing, trolleys have not traveled here in over 50 years. But it looks brand new.

Pittsburgh is know for three things. Steel, sports and Heinz. The factory is still there but it makes apartments vs catchup. It's hard to believe that people could walk to work from Deutschtown to Heinz. Today Rt 28 divides the two

In the past, it was Mom's cooking. Many of our local restaurants bring that style to the masses. Penn Brewery remembers that and adds a fine drink. Penn Brewery continues the theme of Deutschtown. German beer made the old world way. It's a great way to embrace Pittsburgh past
