Being Italian, I love bloomfield. As a runner I hate the climb up Liberty ave, from the Strip District. Its one of those little neighborhoods based on ethnic immigrants. Believe it or not….. Germans first settled here. But its known for Italian immagrants in the 1800s. And its the Italians that brought it fame. Every august Liberty ave become Little Italy. I festval that runs a mile and is filled wiht food and music.

Brooklyn in Pittsburgh

Rain rain go away! Ok maybe not. Rain brings out a differet look in the city. Maybe on a rainy day Lawrenceville looks like Brooklyn New York. I dont really see it. They both have row house and started out as independent neighborhoods. Or maybe it the industry to highend living. Both have great Pizza. But the Pizza is different. For me its a story of rebirth. Take a walk in the Cultural District.

As a young man in the early 1990’s the area known as the Cultural District was far from that. It was a forgoten part of downtown. It was dangerous. Pepshows and bars. Not the kind of places you wanted to go. Homeless and trash. Pittsburgh was still in decline. The scares of losing many steel jobs were still healing.
